Daily update

Sydney, Aus
Friends, where art thou? Thoust thou haveth forgets useth?
Sophie looses skin in her armpit... could be dengue fever. Sophie also found the new Scott Stapp album and got all excited... unfortunately, we will miss his concert, but he looked really hawt on the CD - cover, so its ok.
Weeeeeee!?!

Joakim practices different walking styles, including The Gorilla, The Pimp, The Cherokee... and he is calling Botswana all the time... can you blame him when it only costs 14 cents/minute?

Wuuuuiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!?!

Btw, we left the haschy fog of Queensland behind us, and ended up in an area (Kings Cross) that can best be described as a druggy homo erotic haven for prostitutes, druggies, drug dealers, pimps, $10 rump steak people, and backpackers.

Tonight music? Tomorrow surfing. Monday helicopter.

Surfers Paradise

Not much to say about surfers. Its basically a beach surrounded by lots and lots of hotels, in an effort to resemble Miami. Cool to have been there, but definately not worth spending more than a day in. We did spot a Santana look a like though, and we didnt dare take surfing lessons because the teacher was Horan. We spent the day on the beach, ate, did some shopping (a t-shirt each, and a spinning ring!! :O). We then left Surfers at 8.20 at night for a 16 hour night trip to Sydney, where we just arrived. Not much to say about Sydney yet, but we are planning on taking surfing lessons here at and perhaps do some outer Sydney things. The plane leaves for Melbourne on monday, so we pretty much have the weekend to spend in Sydney.

Book Horan for surfing lessons...

Yet another hotell, the largest one there.

The lord of the spinning ring

Could it be the beach, and... uhmm... is that, no, it cant be, yes im sure its a JETSKI!! Oh, and a couple of hundred hotels in the background. The skyline from a distance looks like a big city skyline, like Manhattan almost.

Can you also see the giant prawn?

Camping is it fun?

Currently in Surfers Paradise
over the day,
in the bay,

mmmkay?

- Poem of the day -

We are sitting here in Surfers trying to recuperate from the trip we took to Fraser Island tuesday and wednesday. More on that later but first the important news. We have, just recently, bought an Eddie - sign and a Didgeridoo album called Yigi Yigi. CRIKEY man its good stuff! Wikkid!!!

Ok, c ya!

Oh, yeah, we had some more stuff to smoke, I mean say, or do I... yeez I duno... thats right Fraser Island... go there if you like spiders, snakes, dingos and great sandy stuff. We took the incredibly comfortable trucks (yes, thats irony... but hey it was a Toyota!) from the Brisbane City Terminal at 7 in the morning to head to Fraser Island. 3 hours later and two asses less we arrived on the Island (see pictures). On the way over to Fraser we spotted some baby dolphins in the sea. Fraser is the largest sand island in the world. From what we heard it has more sand than the entire Sahara desert and the sand is 800 meters thick. Upon arrival we started driving the truck on 75 mile beach. You could basically travel, by car, on that beach for 90 kilometers straight. Needless to say it was big. The beach was classified as a road. Road rules apply on all beaches. Not only was the beach classified as a road, smaller planes also landed on it, so if you didnt get hit by a car you could get hit by an airplane landing or taking off.

We had decided, for reasons we have not yet figured out, to spend the night in a tent. Not the smartest idea perhaps considering the amount of spiders and yucky stuff on the island... arriving at the camp site, staring at it in frozen horror, the one main concern of our surfer guide was:
"Dude, does anyone got any beers they want chilled, man?"

Not really our main concern... first thing Joakim noticed was a semi large spider, inside the tent, which was killed although Sophie was only told about this when safe home in Brisbane. I wise move... other sights include another huge black spider in a restroom, Sophie being attacked by a lizard at another restroom (the combined urinal and handicap "toilet"), a snake that had just swallowed a rat, Sophie killing a spider in the car, and then there was the attack of the death snake... or well, it didnt really attack, and it sorta looked like an eel, but the panic in Sophies eyes was very real. For a moment she considered jumping up from the water onto a sign post (it was not very sustainable, so not a very smart idea)... shortly after that we had a walk in the rainforest that presented even more possibilities of being attacked by spiders and snakes. It is believed that Sophies heart rate reach new heights during this day, and the day after. It is only just now that she stopeed having tunnel vision.

Coming back from the first days trip we got into the hotel resort bar (where all the smart people stayed), had some drinks (Sophie got wasted on two Smirnoff Ice) and listend to some great music. We got to hear and see the "I am mine", which is the first confirmed "hearing" of PJ on this trip. The second one got ruined because we had to get out of the car once we got back to Brisbane, so we got kinda bummed out about that especially since the music had sucked for 2 days straight.

Ok, back to the batmobile. To be continued! Next week, same channel, same time!

Thoughts on Byron

We are set to leave Byron Bay at 4 pm, to go back to Brisbane and to head out to Fraser Island for 2 days of 4 WD hiking on the island. Byron Bay was pretty much like one big festival. Basically people here are "on a hippie trail, head full of zombie". Drunk/high people everywhere, at all times of the day, surfers, sun, beach and definately no worries mate.

Yesterday
Yesterday was basically a chill out day. We slept in 'til 11 am, and spent the rest of the day in the sun and bathing at the beach. Sophie also finally found a pair of semi long shorts she could buy, otherwise only really short ones or really long ones were to be found, in a shop that was a mix between Buttericks (a swedish prank store), various drug devices (although no actual drugs, that we could see at least), inflatible women/men (you know, Barbara), various other porn stuff, and a rack of normal things among them a pair of shorts.

Joakim also spent part of the day in a confusing phone conversation trying to confirm whether or not the Banana Benders Backpackers (where we stayed in Brisbane), had booked the tour to Fraser Island for us. It went something like this:
Dude: Whaddayawant?
J: Hi, we stayed at your place earlier this week and im trying to confirm a booking for a trip you were supposed to do for us.
Dude: Lemme check....
(one second later)
Dude: Yeah its booked man cuz you payed it right.
J: No
Dude: But then its not booked man
J: But thats the thing, you were supposed to book it and we'd pay when we got back.
Dude: So whaddayawant me to do man
J: Can you confirm if this booking is done?
Dude: Oh, lemme check man. Yeah its done man. Pay when you get back
J: Ok great
Dude: No worries mate.

Today...
...we headed up for the lighthouse on top of the mountain overlooking Byron bay. It was quite a steep sweaty walk, but we got some nice pictures for the effort. The lighthouse was supposedly at the most eastern point in Australia. Crikey!

Side note: We've heard the first aussie actually use "Crikey" in real life. Crikey!

Sun is shining...

...weather is sweet.

Coming out of Brisbane this morning, the weather cleared up, not a cloud as far as the eye could see. Made it all the way down to byron bay in less than 3 hours and passed throug Surfers Paradise on the way. We are planning on going there this thursday, but right now, the trip was for Byron bay. Byron bay is an extremely small town, with an exceptionally large beach, a light house, and some shops.

The lighthouse in the far distance

Main beach

The town is some sort of hippie town, and you can even get your aura photo taken. OMG, who wouldnt want that!

The day was spent on the beach and crusing through down town. Sophies a bit worried about a crack in the cealing in our room. There might come some yucky (english for 'guckigt') stuff out there. Not particularly friendly stuff.

Tomorrow we will check out the other attraction, the Lighthouse. It is supposed to be quite nice. There is also a live music place here so we might check out some live music.
