Fucking Larry and his no good twin
So, today was supposed to be a sunny day at the reef, including snorkling at two different reef sites, closing the day off with a "wowie" helicopter trip back from a floating platform, over 5 reef sites.
BUT, it didnt quite turn out that way. Woke up early morning, hearing a strange sound outside our window.
Joakim: Whats that noise?
Sophie: Duno...
Spider: Never mind me...
Sophie: Crikey!
Steve: Isn't she beeeeautiful!
Joakim: Huh... just check it out damnit!
Sophie: CRIKEY!
Turns out its raining, and not just raining, its raining heavily... the balcony was flooded, as were the streets.
Anyway, we went down to the harbour in the pouring rain, and checked in for the trip at 7:30 in the morning. We were told the ride out to the reef was gonna be very rough, and it was. We didnt get seasick, but several people did. Once at the reef, the snorkling was fun. However, we were told just prior to the departure for the second reef that the boat would not be going there because of heavy weather. We were also told that helicopters werent flying at all. So, we stayed at the same reef as in the morning, the weather cleared up, we got some sun and a second better snorkling experience.
Side note:
Apparently fish shit while swimming really, really fast. Looks kind of like a torpedo or a jetstream from a plane.
Take us away from here... p-p-p-leeeez!!
We had planned to leave Cairns tonight for Airlie beach and Whitsundays. Unfortunately because of fucking Larry (the cyclone, not this guy) the buses are still not leaving, and there is no news when they will be getting through.
Back at the hotel, when getting the refund for the cancelled heli ride we found out that Larrys brother (the cyclone called Wati, not this guy) is heading for the coast, somewhere between Bowen and Fraiser Island, which coincidentally was exactly where we were planning to go. Who would've thunk it! So, even if the buses were going, taking a bus to Airlie beach/Whitsundays would put us directly where the cyclone might hit. However, right now they are not sure whether or not it will hit.
So, instead of risking being stuck in another shit hole (sorry Cairns, Rockhampton, Mackay...), and being hit by a cyclone, we have booked a flight to Brisbane leaving tomorrow morning. This way we can actually use our buspasses to go back up to Hervey Bay and Fraiser Island, and then continue to Byron Bay even if the cyclone hits. Next stop Brisbane.
Unfortunately no pics can yet be added to the site as this computer we are using doesnt have, uhmm..., functioning USB ports or you know... it doesnt work. We'll get it fixed eventually.
And, for fucks sake, write some comments!

Tjo! We seem to be followed by another cyclone at the moment... so we'll see about that.
